Coach: Health of opposing player more important than Virgin Valley’s win

Gunner Cortez rushed and passed for a pair of touchdowns today in a 35-6 win against visiting Democracy Prep.

The game was delayed in the third quarter after a Democracy Prep player suffered a head injury, Virgin Valley coach Matt Woods said.

The player was medevac transported from Mesquite to a Las Vegas hospital, Woods said. Democracy Prep coach Darwin Peterson said the player has movement in his extremities, and thanked Virgin Valley’s staff and community for their work.

Chase Otteson and Asher Jackson had touchdown receptions for Virgin Valley, and Decker Lee rushed for a score.
