The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada received $149 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improving Maryland Parkway, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said.

It is the largest individual investment the commission has received and is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed with the help of Cortez Masto and U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, also a Nevada Democrat.

“We are incredibly appreciative to our federal delegation in helping us to secure this FTA grant that will help transform Maryland Parkway for the benefit of everyone in the region,” commission CEO M.J. Maynard said in a statement.

Maryland Parkway stretches 13 miles from the Las Vegas Medical District to south of the Strip. It carries some 9,000 transit riders and 35,000 vehicles daily.

The parkway project will include 42 transit shelters, dedicated bus and bicycle lanes and funding for additional buses.

“The Maryland Parkway corridor plays a key role in driving Southern Nevada’s economy, from moving our workers to supporting small businesses, and I’m proud to have advocated for this funding,” Cortez Masto said in a statement.
