This is the final week to nominate local student-athletes for the Sun’s annual high school sports awards show.

It’s our seventh year hosting the Sun Standout Awards, where student-athletes from all corners of Southern Nevada gather for an evening celebrating the brightest in high school sports.

Modeled after ESPN’s ESPY Awards, the black-tie-optional event honors top games, moments, teams and players. Awards include Male and Female Athlete of the Year, Scholar Athlete of the Year, Citizen of the Year and more.

Our goal is to highlight the best of the best — regardless of sport.

We’ve featured top wrestlers, tennis players, girls flag football players and others among the honorees. We’ve honored athletes who’ve become first-round picks in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, and those who are currently in the NBA.

We’ve celebrated teams that have won a national championship, and other squads that have continued to compete despite tragedy.

We need your help identifying these exceptional stories. The deadline to submit is Friday.

The show is May 20 at the South Point Showroom.

To nominate.
