Two pedestrians waiting for a city bus on Boulder Highway in east Las Vegas were killed Wednesday evening when they were struck by a car whose driver is suspected of being impaired, Metro Police said early this morning.

The crash was reported about 7:37 p.m. on Boulder Highway, south of Dalhart Street, when a sedan plowed into a bus shelter, police said.

Additionally, three pedestrians — two of whom are juveniles — were transported to University Medical Center with injuries.

The driver, identified by police as Cynthia Phelps, 64, suffered minor injuries, police said. She showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI charges, police said.

A 42-year-old male and 14-year-old boy were killed, police said. Two juveniles — an 8-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl — were seriously injured, police said. A woman, 41, was critically hurt.

The sedan was traveling northbound on Boulder Highway in the southbound travel lanes at a high rate of speed, police said. The vehicle went over the sidewalk and into the victims waiting for the bus.
