Fatal crash

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon when he collided with a sport utility vehicle that left the scene after the crash, Metro Police said.

The driver of the SUV, Maria Mauricio-Martinez, 34, of Las Vegas, was located a few blocks away and arrested, a Metro news release said. Police did not indicate if any charges were filed.

Neither the woman nor a 3-year-old boy in the SUV were injured, police said.

The 19-year-old rider of the 2009 Yamaha motorcycle was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of his family.

The crash happened about 2:45 p.m. on North Lamb Boulevard, north of East Washington Avenue.

Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicate the SUV pulled out of a driveway on the west side of Lamb and made a right turn into the path of the motorcycle, which was southbound on Lamb, police said.

The motorcycle hit the left rear of the Nissan, which left the scene without stopping, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section. It was the 40th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
