Pickup truck driver dies in Las Vegas Strip crash

The driver of a pickup truck died this morning after his vehicle crashed into a tree stump on the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro Police responded at 2:56 a.m. to the crash in the 3400 block of south Las Vegas Boulevard. Investigators said the man drove his 2006 Toyota Tacoma landscaping truck off the west sidewalk, crossed four travel lanes and struck a tree stump in the center median.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Las Vegas, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead. The man's name will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Authorities said it is unknown whether a medical condition played a role in the crash. The coroner will determine the man's cause of death.

Metro's Accident Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the crash.
