"Willow", what you are engaging in constitutes online harrassment. Since you've quoted Stanford, I'll cite you Black's Law Dictionary:

"A course of conduct directed at a specific person that causes substantial emotional distress in such person and serves no legitimate purpose" or "Words, gestures, and actions which tend to annoy, alarm and abuse (verbally) another person."

I would advise you to cease and desist immediately."

------------------

Really Willow. Cease and desist right now or Mr. Jacobs the writer will be forced to find an online dictionary to learn how to spell harassment correctly. Not to mention a lawyer he can't afford to sue you for a law you haven't broken. No one wants that. So not only should you cease and desist, but you can avoid all legal consequences by paying his rent for the next few months by making your check payable to his girlfriend the freelance editor and administrator who will be responsible to the IRS. You have been warned.

Links are not copyright violations regardless of the number. How many beers have you had tonight?

Oh bull. Creative Commons doesn't affect fair use. The Sun may pull it out of bias, but Willow is well within her legal rights. Nice try.

One sided discussions appear to be Mr. Jacobs' specialty, and it's obvious which side the Las Vegas Sun is on. I get that they like the attention to the website for advertising purposes, but why help these people ask for donations under false pretenses? No one in town has money to spare right now.

I can hear the rustling sounds of a million Las Vegans pulling out their checkbooks...or maybe that was birds scratching on the bottoms of their cages. I hope no one will fall for it again.

With all due respect MrSmokestoomuch, I do take him at his word. In his blogs (linked to by others in these comments), he writes extensively about his daily alcohol and drug use. I also stumbled onto some other discrepancies between what he has written here and there that led me to form this opinion, but my best wishes for his future enlightenment and recovery are sincere. He doesn't need anyone to make excuses for him; he does that plenty well on his own. The truth is what will set him free.

I doubt the doctor prescribed that the oxycodone should be swallowed with a twelve-pack of beer and margaritas. The mere act of asserting that you are not an addict and a victim only of your own poor choices, when all evidence indicates the contrary, does not make it so. I just wonder if the editors at the Sun are proud of becoming this man's enablers by encouraging his dishonest and denial-ridden narrative.

Just so there are no misunderstandings, I'm one of LarryVegas' liberals of the bleeding heart variety, and an atheist. I won't pray for you but I do hope you find your true bottom before it's too late, so you can get the kind of help you really need.

The only group Mr. Jacobs didn't address in his comment are the folks wondering why he is unwilling to make any changes. Perhaps he would prefer to assume we all come under the heading of preaching and praying because it makes it easier to avoid the question.

I rarely agree with most of the commenters on this site, but this time I must echo the sentiments of others who question the Sun's decision to choose this particular couple to represent the "new" homeless. This man's story is hardly new. Poor decisions, substance abuse issues, and a refusal to take responsibility for one's own actions have led to destitution and despair practically since the beginning of time. I would be more interested in the story of someone who is willing to actually change something to improve his situation. Mr. Jacobs and his companion clearly have no intention of ever changing a thing.
