Hey Ryan, I heard a rumor that Chris Walker (class of 2013) is very interested in UNLV. Any validity to it? Is he being recruited by Rice and staff?

He's a top 10 player. That would be a huge get.

If you realize that Fredette is a very good player, but you're sick and tired of everyone gushing about him, check out this link:

It pokes a little fun at Jimmer to balance out the lovefest going on right now.

Wasn't Darington Hobson the conference Player of the Year last year?

It's true. Bringing in Masoli made no sense. That's why Hauck and/or his staff said no thanks.

Masoli is enrolling at Mississippi.

I hope that every moron that thinks Lon Kruger is overpaid, and that we need to do away with athletics will read this and forever keep their mouth shut.

Interesting discussion. I'll just point out a few factual tidbits. All the info regarding recruits and their stars came from scout.com:

Since 2006, only three 4-star, non-transfer recruits have played for UNLV.

In that same span, New Mexico, BYU, and San Diego State have combined to put a total of two 4-star, non-transfer recruits.

The recruits: Marcus Lawrence, Beas Hamga, Anthony Marshall, Kawhi Leonard, and Philip McDonald.

BYU and New Mexico each have one 4-star recruit for the class of 2010.

What does it all mean? First, that stars mean very little. Leonard and Marshall are studs. McDonald is a solid player. Hamga and Lawrence were busts.

UNLV is recruiting high school players just as well, if not better, than any other team in the MWC. Add the 'retreads' and the collection of talent is arguably the best in the conference.

Winning another national championship is highly unlikely. Sometimes, however, a very well coached team of solid, under-the-radar recruits can do pretty well.

Last fun fact:

The University of Butler Bulldogs just played in the National Championship game with a roster full of mostly 2-star recruits, for what it's worth.

Bummer. I hope it was worth it, Matt.

Really hiloyo?

Gary is a great college player, but has no shot to play in the NBA. Dumb comment.

Anyway, I've been saying for months that Hobson is a goner. He's already 22 years old, and it is very unlikely his draft stock would improve in the next year. He'll likely stay in the draft, and will probably go late in the first round.

"BYU, New Mexico St., and San Diego St. had brand new teams this year."

This made me laugh for two reasons. First, BYU lost one player who played significant minutes from last year's team (Lee Cummard). Fredette, Emery, Miles, and Tavernari were all a huge part of their team last year.

Second, I'll admit that I don't know much about New Mexico State. I don't really follow the WAC.

It sucks that we lost. It was very disappointing, but the Rebels played well against a very good team.

There is no reason to expect anything less than a fanastic season next year. I'd bet good money that Hobson will be gone. Take Hobson and Martinez away and the Lobos will slip back into the pack.

BYU will be tough. Unless Jimmer has a crazy run through the tournament, he'll be back next year. They'll also lose Tavernari, which is probably addition by subtraction.

Overall, a very good season. They overachieved this year, provided some great moments and memories, and are poised to have an even better run next year.

As a parting thought, I wouldn't trade Kruger for Alford in a million years. One of them consistently chokes in the postseason, and it isn't Kruger. Keep an eye New Mexico/Washington tomorrow.

I agree about Murray State. They are a very good team and will be playing inspired ball. They are dealing with tragedy. It has the makings of a special game for them.

I like UTEP. I haven't been high on Butler all season, and I'm not jumping on board now.

Pains me to say it, but objectively, I like BYU's chances a lot. I can see Fredette having a Steph Curry like run in the tourney, dropping 40 on Florida and 30+ on K-State. Neither of those teams play great perimeter defense. Don't rip me guys. I can't stand the kid, but you have got to respect his abilities.

Baylor is my Final Four dark horse. The South Bracket is historically thin. I think Baylor could sneak into the Final Four and then get blown out by a battle tested West Virginia team.
